Protects South City’s
Small Businesses

Makes the large corporations pay their fair share
Measure W removes the tax cap on large corporations, so that every corporation regardless of size is taxed fairly.
Does NOT tax South City residents
Measure W only affects businesses, and does NOT tax residents.
Keeps local South City dollars in South City!
Measure W will raised $2.6 million, with every dollar invested back into our local community, and not a single dollar going outside South San Francisco.
Why Measure W now?
SSF’s Business License Tax has not been updated since 2008
South San Francisco’s Business License Tax is Regressive
Currently, small businesses pay over 50% of the current tax structure. And each business pays the same amount per employee regardless of business size.
Measure W will shift the tax burden away from our small businesses, with a mildly progressive tax structure where larger businesses pay more.
There is a cap that limits the taxes of the largest corporations
The tax cap only affects the largest corporations, meaning they are paying a much smaller effective tax rate than all of our small and medium sized businesses.
Measure W lifts the tax cap, so that our business license tax structure is fair, and all our largest corporations pay their fair share.
Sacramento is Threatening to Take Money Away from Our City
California’s State budget deficit puts our city under increasing threat to lose over $5 million in fiscal year 2025/26. The State has taken millions of property tax dollars from cities to address its own budget deficit, and is threatening to not pay the City back.
Measure W gives South San Francisco a locally controlled source of revenue to maintain crucial services our residents depend on.
Measure W includes fiscal accountability protections to ensure funds are spent properly.
with public disclosures of all spending, mandatory annual audits, and citizens’ oversight. South San Francisco will continue our record of fiscal responsibility and transparency.
